October 25, 2000. This ‘round-the-world
sojourn dedicated to changing one’s prevailing state of conscious thought,
("Waking up", "Gaining Enlightenment", "Achieving
The Great Liberation"),
appears to forever consist of two distinct groups:
those who do it,
and those who want to hear
"those-who-do-it"
talk about doing it.
It is from this arrangement that all of the historic, so-called, schools,
systems, disciplines that teach awakening arise. (Along with those ever-present
independent teachers who are in the mystical branch of show business
simply because they have no other bankable talent, [same thing in religion
with self-anointed, jackleg preachers]. But they are of no interest
to us here since they are but harmless, would-be entertainers
who couldn’t cut it on Caesar’s stage.)
All of the famous and semi so "Paths To Enlightenment" had
their origins in the efforts and success of one man,
some where,
at some time.
The person’s identity may not be remembered,
or it may apparently be so while being spurious.
The individual identity of whoever’s effort it was that was the fountainhead
of any particular system is of no significance whatever --
but what is is the fact that:
On the inner trek in search of how you can
permanently modify your state of consciousness
there are two distinct groups:
Those who do it,
and those who want to hear
"those-who-do-it"
talk about doing it.
(And let us note that those of the first group were once of the second.
Everyone must begin as part of the first division.
[I say that so that we may continue this discussion as though there
is some serially perceivable logic to life.])
As a result of this situation you have the actual doing of what it
takes to unnaturally enlighten yourself,
and then you have the theory of it.
Most who undertake to do
never get beyond fiddling around with the theory of it.
There is nothing wrong with this;
playing with ideas can be great sport for thoughts.
In fact in so doing, thoughts can vicariously feel as though the theories
with which they toy –
they actually experience.
(Not unlike a football fan watching a game on tv
as he bounces about on the couch,
shifting his shoulder from side to side
as though he too is actually
on the field, blocking & tackling.)
All of this is a product of how conscious thought works.
While thought is involved with the words of a given theoretical structure,
(e.g., "being Enlightened"),
it has the automatic capacity to believe that through its involvement
the structure has gone from mental image to extant reality,
but always a reality external to the thought that
brought it into being to begin with.
Thought imagines a house.
Thought then imagines itself in the imaginary house.
Thought becomes comfortable in the new house,
begins to explore it,
finding curious new rooms,
and exotic new trinkets,
and becomes so intrigued with the new place that it
completely forgets that it is making up the
whole thing as it appears to be happening.
This can be great fun,
and everybody does it,
but everybody is in the,
"Everybody Head Condition."
(mystics would say, "Asleep & living-in-a-dream.")
For those with a natural affinity for this unique affair
the joys, the thrills, the encouragement you can get from reading about
it puts such writings in a class totally beyond the reach of all other
literature.
To a man thirsty for champagne
no amount or variety of wine coolers will do.
Once a man wants to wake up
nothing in life even comes close to comparing to –
hearing about,
reading about,
thinking about -- "Waking up."
There is simply nothing else like it.
……(except of course for one thing.)
But still,
for a person with that certain longing
just knowing about the idea of achieving some new,
and extraordinary state of awareness,
and understanding of life,
and reading that others have accomplished,
and apparently left these-or-that instructions
on how to do it,
just having all of this available for your thoughts to
play-with, and dream-about,
just this affords them secret mental pleasures
unknown to the other twelve billion feet supporting their family &
neighbors.
But at that level it is still all theory –
fascinating,
captivating,
near mind-blowing theory,
yet still it is not the, "doing it" --
it is the listening to someone talk about doing it.
And who, you might ask,
is the primary villainous source of all the
"talking-about-it" that distracts a man from his
own doing-of-it?
Could it be, Swami X?……Guru Y?……System Z?
No -- it is a man’s own thoughts.
And here is how to approach this at a practical level.
Consider that your own individual longing for some other state consists
of two components:
One that is satisfied to hear about doing it,
and another one, with which you are less familiar,
(to wit), the uncharted place in your,
thoughts-of-doing-it
wherein
"doing it" is actually possible.
The place cannot be adequately described by anyone, other than to say
this:
The place is somewhere other than where
the thoughts in your head
TALK to you about it.
And have no doubt,
such a place in your consciousness does exist,
or else what I am saying would
make no sense to you,
nor seem so familiar.
Every word spoken by your brain through
conscious thought,
when to same, you give all your conscious listening,
spontaneously triggers pictures & other words
everyone of which,
regardless of content,
I assure you are anathema to the aim of
clear-sightedness & stabilized awareness.
There are no thoughts which routinely appear
that are not thoughts that sabotage your
extraordinary aim.
No need to be upset at routine thoughts however;
a man knowingly sipping Mad Dog
does not expect the taste of Dom Perignon.
The only potential value of the talk I talk
is that my purpose is to expose the true nature of talk, and destroy
your distracting faith therein.
After that you can then finally -- Think for yourself!
….(assuming there is anything left to think about.)
How did you enjoy being here with me today when I
did not identify where we are?
Yeah, but not to worry;
in this amazing adventure
no matter where you are -- you’re still there.
The phone is always ringing,
and you’re always answering.
The phone is always ringing,
and you’re always answering.
The phone is always ringing,
and you’re always answering.
Stop it.

:If you truly want to awaken,
and you’re hanging out with morons
then my advice, (if I gave advice), would be that you
do not hang out with morons.
….(if you mainly hang out by yourself,
the advice would be the same.)
