As far back as human history is remembered
there has been a belief in the existence of a “great secret”.
People at the back of the parade believe it to be
a secret power to bend others to your will,
(a childish notion of no interest to us here),
while the more mentally centered picture it as
a secret “knowledge.”
All of the systems dedicated to achieving
an
improved state of consciousness,
(and thus a superior understanding of life),
have this belief at their core.
Say they:
“There is a knowledge that man lacks
which is the cause of his distracted state of mind,
and confusion about life, and himself."
It is difficult
for even ordinary men to dismiss the idea,
since the ordinary thoughts of ordinary men
find fault with life wherever they look,
and are readily receptive to the notion that
the problems men suffer in life come about because of their own stupidity,
in one way or another.
Ergo, there is something that man has yet to learn
that would solve all his problems,
and cure all his complaints.
The religiously wired say that what is needed is,
”the knowledge of God”;
the politically inclined claim what is needed is,
“the knowledge of human nature,”
while those in Psychology, Philosophy & The Arts insist that
what man needs is,
“the knowledge of himself,”
but the occultists-cum-mystics have always
been of the mind that the knowledge needed by man to open his eyes
and set him free
has been hidden from him in some
supernatural fashion,
and can only be found through the study of
some other “secret knowledge” known only to them.
Their claim amounts to this:
“There is a knowledge of great value that is not known to ordinary
men,
and which in fact is hidden from them,
but we possess a certain secret teaching whose study will lead you
to,
"The Great Secret Knowledge.'”
In the beginning
no one is immune to this alluring idea.
It sounds right,
it feels right,
and it seems to fit the conditions of life as they are at that time
perceived to be.
(En passant: If we lived in a different internal universe
where,
The-Rule-Of-Anglo-Saxon-Law prevailed,
the above would be prohibited under the theory of,
“An Attractive Nuisance.”
But --- alas.)
For those wired with a hunger for that
specialized activity that is the subject of these
daily news reports,
there is a quite solid reality to the idea of a
secret knowledge,
but it is far, far different from
anything that anyone else believes it to be.
And here is just how different:
From here on,
no matter how valuable my words may seem to be to you –
anything I say about the secret knowledge will be like me trying
to
get you to see a certain thing
while I’m poking you in the eye.
Your own thoughts are unwittingly doing this to you already
but if someone else can do this knowingly --
and with a purpose
you then have the possibility of suddenly
seeing the secret for yourself
in the brief intervals between the pokes to the eye,
(between the words.)
The secret knowledge
which all who Awaken realize
is that all the present knowledge your thoughts talk to you about
is the very thing that hid the
secret knowledge from you all along.
But even if my description is valid
-- note:
just your reading it likely did not cause your
sudden awakening,
for no one can actually “TELL you” what it is.
It is a thing that each person must personally
discover for himself.
The subtlety of it is such that
any telling of it -- covers it up.
If you describe it -- you hide it.
I am not trying to be metaphysically cute, or coy,
but before you see the secret for yourself
what I am saying here can certainly seem frustrating,
if not downright annoying.
You feel that someone who knows something that
you want to know
is trying to tell you what it is, but it seems like they
simply won’t come right out and say it.
I know -- I know,
but ponder this: it is nothing but the same old
automatic thoughts in your head saying that to you.
Aren’t you becoming the least bit
suspicious of that arrangement?
Aren’t you beginning to get an exhilarating sense of indescribable
anticipation,
as though you are on the verge of an astounding discovery?
What those who want to awaken want
to know
is standing right behind every word
they think.
Thoughts will not lead you to it,
but if you will ignore the content
and look only at the delivery system,
then the cracks BETWEEN the thoughts can become your entrance
to the secret.
In the several months since I have
been writing these daily words I have pointed my verbal finger directly
at this matter in a variety of ways,
and I will recap, refresh and herein -- try again.
In relationship to, “the secret knowledge”
needed to wake up
everything everyone knows is wrong,
and every word anyone speaks is incorrect.
I know that this can rub your mind the wrong way,
and your thoughts can oh so easily brush it aside as
a meaningless attempt at abstruse allegory,
but what I just said is not a metaphor for anything that I did not
say.
What I just said is literally as close to, “the truth”
as words can get.
Words are a delivery system;
words are not things themselves, but rather symbols
that point to things,
some real,
some not,
but above all remember that the words themselves are not real things.
Thus whatever “REAL reality” there is out there
can only be obscured by words & thoughts --
by knowledge of whatever ordinary variety.
The enjoyable, and useful non tangible
world that man’s thoughts have created is,
compared to “REAL reality” --
just an ever-changing collection of, fairy tales,
smoke dreams, and entertaining bullshit.
The only “real” knowledge that human thoughts have
is about the physical world,
but once you have said that:
2 and 2 is four, E=MC2, and that the stadium located at Rollins Road
& Sixth Street,
everything after that is just story telling.
The mental-only, secondary world of man is nothing but
Lewis Carroll, Rabbi X, Swami Y, Prof. Z
elaborating on their own concocted tales --
entertaining perhaps,
but nothing to get worked up over,
and if you stand idly by and allow your thoughts to
mindlessly chase after theirs
you are in the same state of dreams as they are.
Only reality is serious –
the stuff covering it up -- not.
Here is today’s
wrap on the matter:
Take everything you know, and think,
lay it aside for a moment,
look at life -- and what you see then is
the secret knowledge;
everything you have always wanted to know;
every question answered,
every problem solved -- BAM!
-- instantly!
You see the secret –
you simply see everything as it is.
Your thoughts add nothing to it,
nor do they take away.
(I will grant you that it is easier
said than done,
but at least now you can’t claim that you haven't heard
it said.)
..........gonna get real loose
like a long necked goose –
-- oh baby you KNOW
what I like,
Jan
No one can tell you exactly --
what-it-is,
but I can tell you what it is not,
and what I am telling you today is
that it is not what anyone says that it is.
Saying it --
obscures it..
No " knowledge" is
the secret knowledge.
