 January 20, 2002.                                                                 Dateline: Your place or mind?

                               THE WEEK'S STRONG FINISH

On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, one man would arise at 4 am;
eat nothing and meditate all day;
on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays he would sleep ‘til noon;
drink all day and party all night;
half the time he was awake  --  but he couldn’t determine which half --
......(that’s how he spent Sundays: pondering that question,
                               [that and bemusing over the whole affair]).

At every given moment  –  at every place on this planet,
only two things are going on: people are doing things and people are telling stories.
Get over it!

Trying to awaken is like being a character in a work of fiction
who is trying to explain the character of the author.

If you are doing this properly you are a constant mental threat to yourself.

Many speak quite highly of the ability to, “control yourself” --
but ask yourself: how is such a thing possible?
How can YOU control YOUR self?............................................and on top of that:
how is it possible for you to even ask yourself such a question?
.............(What the hell’s going on with this inside-man’s-head thing any way!?)

The scope of a frog's knowledge has no limits  --  save frog.

No one can tell the truth about their self  --  the way they live does.

In re: doingThisThing:
If others see even a drop of sweat on you --  you’re not doing it right.

Culture is the anthropomorphism of the physical world;
art, the anthropomorphism of science; self, of thought.

What do you call someone who talks about their struggle to awaken?
    A beginner.

Being asleep makes you just seem ignorant;
being awake turns you into the real deal.

                A man who cares what other people think about him has three problems:
                one is that he does not understand what “think-about” is about;
                two is that he does not realize what “him” means,
                and three is that he does not utilize his ability to “care” correctly.

You have no “self” until thought creates it       ----         then it’s too late.

A guy asked a mystic:
“Does anyone understand what you’re talking about?”
  “You mean: excluding me?”
“Yeah.”
   “No.        Do you want to ask about: including me?”
“Okay.”
  “No.”

In the beginning it is an intelligent man who asks questions;
getting on toward the end, ‘tis only the igerunt.

A man who talks too much buries himself while he yet stands.

“Papa, is there a technical description of what, ‘being-asleep’ is?”
    “Many have been proposed, but here is the best:
       It is having only thoughts that your brain automatically provides.”

You have no "I" until thought commandeers it  --   by then, it's all over any way.

You must be devoid of real sense to insist that life must make sense.

                               Those who, when they think they are being clever,
                               want you to know that  they're being so,
                                                                             are amateurs.

To whine is to sleep; to complain is to snore.

The only way anyone ever awakens is by being eventually pushed into it:
                                              by whom?     --     no one knows.

When you reach a place where you cannot tell much difference between being what you think of as “asleep” and “awake,”
then you are either now awake     --    or else still asleep.

  You know the difference,
  but it no longer makes much difference.........................to you....................personally.

The problem arose (as it turned out) when he misread the title of the article: "Simulating Brain Damage" as: "Stimulating..."

      ...........and if you cannot yet be a fire    --     for god’s sake do not be a fire hose.
