Physical
reality requires no upkeep,
whereas
man’s self-made second reality must have constant story-tellingto
survive.
The
natural operations of the physical world are not dependent on man;
not
the planet’s rotation; not the laws of gravity or thermodynamics;
not
the process of photosynthesis;
they
exist completely apart any story-telling/explanations by man,
but
the other world & reality in which man simultaneously lives,
the
second, non tangible world of culture has no existence other than his story-telling.
From
the passing human view, the physical world is permanent;
the
planet on which you live – the universe itself –
was
here when you arrived, and will be here when you depart,
and
left untouched, the conditions of the physical world outside of man are,
relative
to him, unchanging (the mountains, oceans, forests),
but
in his second reality is no permanency:
boulders
are stable -- story-telling is not;
the
atmosphere outside of man is steady -- that inside him, anything
but.
Consciousness
= thinking and thinking = story-telling;
story-telling
is fluid and unfixed, and without this characteristic,
consciousness
would serve no purpose;
its
ability to think of the otherwise permanent conditions of
the
physical world in unrestrained, story-telling terms
is
what makes possible man’s manipulations thereof to his benefit.
No
story-telling
-- no progress;
no
story-telling
-- no civilization to begin with.
If
thought did not consist entirely of story-telling about man’s environment
as
opposed to totally programmed physical reactions to
the environment,
man
would be living a life not substantially different from other animals,
simply
taking the conditions of life as they come,
but
by having the inner talent of story-telling,
man’s
brain is able to imagine natural conditions in unnatural poses,
and
pass the pictures to his muscles who can turn dreams into reality.
Without
the brain’s story-telling about the physical world,
man
would have no science, technology, or medicine,
and
his life would bear no resemblance to the one he now leads.
Story-telling
however, plays an additional role;
besides
making the physical world a better place for man to live in,
it
has created a whole other, non physical world that lives in
man.
The
part of the brain that produces consciousness has imprinted in it
the
entire plans for this second reality;
it
exists only here, and its material manifestations that man erects in the
physical world bear as much relationship to their neural reality as do
flags to the notions of nationalism that spawned them,
or
xmas tree ornaments to the spiritual idea they purport to celebrate;
education
is of the second reality, and the campus of a university is not education
--
--
the blueprint in men’s consciousness of it is.
The
physical structures attendant to matters in man’s second reality
are
but totally dependent corollaries of the neural concept behind them;
remove
the story-telling from churches, colleges and congresses,
and
their buildings become imposing empty shells with nothing to offer.
The
second reality certainly has its material props,
but
without the overt presentations of the story-telling that begat
them,
they
are as impotent as are a film studio’s without a script.
As
in their first role, story-telling can
make muscles take actions driven strictly
by second reality concerns, but as self observation clearly shows,
very
seldom does this occur;
almost
all of a man's inner story-telling remains nothing but that.
Every
single item that man’s mind treats as existing but which his hands cannot
touch is nothing but story-telling
-- pure, plain and simple;
this
constitutes no criticism of the story-tellings --
merely
puts them in proper context.
Story-telling
is as necessary to the non tangible, second reality in which
man
spends an ever increasing amount of his life -- in his thoughts
--
as
it is to the physical reality in which he spends the entire life of his
body.
No
story-telling
-- no culture;
no
art, no music, no literature, no sports, no politics, no mythology,
no
philosophy, no religion, no psychology, sociology, anthropology, no history;
none
of the kinds of things that not only take up the greater part of most men’s
lives, but are considered of most importance therein.
People
-- civilized people -- will commonly skip meals to save money
for new clothing, or by pass sex to watch a game, or go without sleep to
attend a concert.
It
is a fact: a second reality exists --
and
it would not were it not for man, and it would not did man not have consciousness,
and its ability to tell stories,
and
this story-telling-based-reality
is an integral part of normal human existence,
and
indeed at any given instant in any person’s life
it
may hold a position momentarily superior to even survival needs –
--
now that is a powerful reality! --
even if you cannot touch it.
But
make no mistake: everything
in
that reality --
--
everything concerning
that reality is nothing more than story-telling.
No
matter whether the subject of the story is called, spiritual, serious
and non fiction,
or
labeled fanciful and mere entertaining -- they are all just
story-telling;
that
is all thought is capable of; only muscles can actually do;
story-telling-thought
can cause muscles to do,
but
they themselves are do-less........................and yet –
story-telling
is so important to man’s normal existence -- its influence so strong
that
its inability to actually do-anything but
tell
stories is constructively ignored.
If
your desire is to understand what being a human in this universe is about,
beyond
all of the story-telling ordinarily available, on the subject,
then
the position, purpose and nature of the brain’s story-telling cannot
be ignored;
indeed,
just the complete comprehension thereof is more than enough to
force
open your cloudy inner eyes/I’s.
If
you see clearly for yourself the distinction between what herein is being
expediently
referred to as: doing,
and, story-telling,
and
recognize for yourself the obvious existence of a second, intangible
world
in
which men naturally live, in addition to the physical one,
and
realize that this other reality consists of nothing but story-telling
--
--
after that you can no longer dream, be hypnotized and fooled by life as
before.
