Showing The Few How To Complete A Certain Structure By Emptying It
  FEBRUARY 20, 2005                                                             © 2005: JAN COX

Man’s routine city life is an ongoing, impassioned talk-a-thon  --
concerning the impossible.
Imagining material things to be other than they presently are is the essence of technology and the heart of civilization;
imagining non material matters to simply BE is the essence of culture,
and the core of man’s second reality;
without the one type of dreaming  --  man would be a mere clever animal;
and without the other type  --   he would awaken from the animal-dream.
("Shoosh shoosh now, all you sheep need to go to sleep [except for you few with that exemption.]")

You can safely assume you are in the city when interviews with actors are found scintillating and ofttimes of philosophical and psychological significance.
Turning men’s pedestrian lives (via words) into melodramas is the bedrock of
city life.

Ordinary men are unable to face the reality of how their preferences are instantly established in their nervous-system without any thought or analysis given thereto,
and then what unbelievably short shrift is given the subsequent feelings and thoughts about the preferences that are registered in their mind throughout the rest of their lives whenever their memory of such is periodically triggered.

What’s obvious is primary: it is that which requires no measurement by speech;
that which is secondary is subtle and can only be seen via its verbalization.
  (“Well, hi there god/truth/justice [or insert any other concept of your choosing]
     I didn’t see you standing over there – not until I said I saw you standing over there.”)
“Pa pa?”
    “Yes?”
“How much simpler could it be?”
    “Good gracious my boy, I’m sure I have no idea what you are talking about.”
                                                                                                 ("Well shut my mouth and call me Gaylord!”)

Waking-up, Enlightenment, The Great Liberation, etc. could be described as the completely unnecessary (not to mention, unwanted) measuring of man’s second reality beyond what consciousness normally does.
    (“Yes, I always wanted to know-the-truth     [until I began having suspicions of what it is.]”)

Note that cultural matters continually commented on would not survive without their being continually commented on.
  Technologists have long dreamed of a perpetual motion machine;
  culturalists have unwitting discovered it.
    Once human imagination has been set in motion, only the anomalous man can,
    (within his self) stop it.

In the city: talk itself IS the major success.

In man’s inner, second reality: comments and the things commented on
are inseparable.

As long as you can talk  –  there’s always tomorrow.

The secondary world continually dies  –  but it’s not fatal.
(Remember the perpetual motion machine?!)

For the certain man, thinking is always in real time;
for the ordinary it’s reserved for yesterday and tomorrow.

Second reality activities at least give everyday people something to talk & think about.

All it takes to get you by in the city is to talk of your success in the future.

The nervous-system-rebel has got to always do more than just what will get him by.

It is the job of talk to help the second reality exert influence over the first.
  Hormones Are Made To Bend To Neurons.
   As is well known to Medicine and Metallurgy, many people today cannot
  properly digest their food if they are not watching tv as they eat.

One author in defending the fact that everything he writes is purely allegorical said: “Well where would be the fun in saying directly what you mean!?”

Life can be so direct & simple that only the distracted & simple-minded don’t see it.

The certain-man is not a person but an unnecessarily activated area of one’s brain.

It is only the special-investigator who never speaks ill of the past.

The person trying-to-get-to-the-bottom-of-things does all he or she can do
while everyone else must do but Life’s bidding.

The worst thing a man trying to crack-the-case can do is feel bad nonphysically,
(and don’t embarrass yourself by asking: “But what can I do about it?”)

Life as perceived by ordinary consciousness is one of a physical realm of no freedom, and an inner one it can imagine as otherwise.

In order to escape you must first realize that you are captive & there is no escape  –

then you can escape.

All thought natural to a man’s mind supports a polarized view of reality,
not that this is not in some instances true, but in the proper efforts to achieve
internal freedom  –  it never is.

By being able to dream of a landscape that exceeds the finite, man’s thoughts produce a finite landscape.
    “How much neater can Life make things!?”
“Yeah, or trickier.”
    “Better tasting!”
“Less filling!”
    “Better tasting!”.....

In the city, a man making the statement: “I am going to change,”
amounts to about all the change you’re going to see.
(Also: Changing because you have to change ain’t much of a change.)

Everything that ordinary minds say is meant to be taken seriously  –
no matter how preposterous.

The certain-man never has any interest in looking through
someone else’s point of view  –
not for the assumed purpose of learning anything from the point of view.
Rebel submariners don’t bother peering through periscopes which they know are constructed on funny mirrors.
In fact, as has been previously noted: Everything that everyone else knows is a waste of time to the nervous-system-rebel;

anything anyone else has ever thought will ultimately be of no help since
            everything you’ve always wanted to know is in your own mind.
