Origin-of-Species Edition

A man does not know that he is conscious until he has a mind to tell him that he is; then for some it's too late.
Meanwhile, later, those same "some" can discover that it is not too late, that in fact it all occurred at the only time it could occur, and that the time is always "just right" for the "some"
to make their needed adjustments.
One man told his mind:
"Don't talk to me when I'm trying to be conscious."
The mind looks for a template, a paradigm, the origin-of-species,
while consciousness just looks.
Legerdemainian Legend:
There is magic that consciousness can do that makes all the stage illusions of the mind look like cheap pocket tricks.
The Adversarial Arrangement:
The body is feral;
T he mind, civilized;
Consciousness remains neutral.
Whenever his consciousness would drift, this one man would say to it: "Return with me now to those wondrous days that are every day! Right here -- right now!"
Mere aggression lies forever safely beyond the pale
of pure consciousness.
Trying to be conscious without the mind's interference gives a man something always to do.
What can I tell you:
Talking-to-yourself is not consciousness.
With attention resident in consciousness,
apologies are seldom necessary.
Hey! What can I tell you, again:
The mind-is-the-mind
but consciousness can be, point-blank!
Consciousness is the one thing a thinker can never afford to lose.
